Charborough Road Primary School

Special Education Needs and Disabilities Information

SEND

We recognise that all children have different needs.

Through our planning and assessment procedures we meet those varied needs within the classroom by careful differentiation of work and Quality First Teaching.

Those children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are supported by our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENDCo) Sally Bishop.

The school works with a variety of external agencies in order to meet the needs of our pupils. These range from statutory organisations such as Social Services, Educational Psychologist, Speech Therapist and the Health Service to voluntary organisations such as the Southern Brooks Partnership.

Children who are identified as able, gifted and talented are supported through appropriately differentiated activities and challenges.

All pupils are treated as equals regardless of their gender, disability or ethnicity. We value the different experiences all our children bring to Charborough Road School.

Children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)

Children with EHCPs are placed in schools through the arrangements set out in the SEN Code of Practice and not through the admission criteria. Each governing body is required by Section 324 of the Education Act 1996 to admit to the school a child with an EHCP that names the school whether or not there are places available. Any appeal concerning the EHCP or the admission is to the independent First-tier Tribunal (Health, Education and Social Care Chamber).

Staff are trained and supported to be as inclusive as possible, with the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities being met in a mainstream setting wherever possible, where families want this to happen.
